Why We Specialize In Peripheral Neuropathy
Founders of the “San Antonio Neuropathy Center” became frustrated with the standard medical care offered to patients suffering with Peripheral Neuropathy. Patients suffering with neuropathy are told, “The cause of your neuropathy is unknown and once you have neuropathy – it’s permanent; you just need to learn to live with it”.
To make matters worse, patients are being given numerous medications to treat their neuropathy pain, such as Neurontin® (gabapentin), Lyrica® (pregabalin), Cymbalta® (duloxetine hydrochloride), Tramadol, etc.
The problem with this approach is that the medications do nothing to heal the nerves. At best, they only mask the pain, while the neuropathy continues to worsen. However the real problem begins with all of the side effects created by the medications. In some cases, the side effects can be just as severe as the neuropathy itself.
… while researching for our book “Defeat Neuropathy Now … In Spite of Your Doctor”, we discovered that cases labeled as idiopathic (unknown cause), actually had very clear underlying causes that could be treated and reversed!
Unsatisfied with conventional treatments, that yielded little to no results for patients, Dr. Monteiro, D.C. and Dr. Coppola, D.C. set out on a quest to discover how to heal peripheral nerve damage leading to neuropathy. Their research ultimately led them to write a book on the topic, “Defeat Neuropathy Now … In Spite of Your Doctor”. During the course of their research, they discovered that most neuropathy cases were not “Idiopathic” (of unknown cause), but had very clear underlying causes.
Once the underlying cause is identified, we could begin to prescribe a treatment plan, based on proven research, that does not just mask the symptoms with medications, but gets to the root cause of the neuropathy. When the damaged nerves begin to heal, the symptoms are alleviated (burning, numbness, tingling and sharp shooting pain). Balance, strength, and normal sensory perception (the ability to feel hot, cold, light touch, vibration etc) are also restored, which is critical for preventing patients from injuries like falls. And this is Why We Specialize In Peripheral Neuropathy.
